Portrait of Martyn Hopper

Martyn Hopper

Founder & Managing Director

Former regulator and City law-firm partner. Advises boards and senior executives on regulatory risk, governance and culture.

Biography

Martyn founded Martyn Hopper & Partners to bring together legal, regulatory and policy expertise in a way that helps organisations grow with integrity and clarity. He is one of the UK’s most experienced legal practitioners in financial services regulation, with more than three decades advising institutions, boards and senior executives on enforcement, governance and regulatory strategy.

He has acted for leading banks, asset managers, insurers and listed companies in the most significant regulatory investigations and enforcement actions of the past twenty years. His work ranges from high-stakes authorisation and licensing applications to internal investigations, supervisory interventions and crisis management — including major post-crisis and market-misconduct cases where legal, regulatory and reputational risks converge.

Drawing on this experience, Martyn now focuses increasingly on helping clients get things right before they go wrong: building systems, frameworks and cultures that anticipate regulatory expectations and support sustainable growth. His work combines deep insight into how and why failures occur with a multidisciplinary approach to designing regulation and compliance as part of business infrastructure.
